KIN

When a parent doesn't answer the phone, worry comes from not knowing what's happening. KIN turns small signs of daily life into an update the family can understand.

KIN: See the day

What does an unanswered call really mean?

When a parent doesn't pick up, an adult child faces more than a missed call. The uncertainty is frightening: did they miss the ring, leave their phone behind, or run into trouble? Beyond that moment, older parents need safety, but also independence, dignity, a chance to share, and the feeling that their family sees them. Their ordinary days matter too.

Turn signals into an update a family can understand

KIN Watch provides location, activity, heart rate, wear status, and independent cellular communication. The Family App places these signals in the context of time and personal history, separates observations from inferences, and presents them through Now, Today, and Data. Now shows where a parent is, whether they are active, and how recent the information is. Today traces outings, returns home, and time spent at familiar places. Data shows longer-term patterns and sync records.

If a call goes unanswered, these clues can help a child judge whether a parent is more likely shopping, walking, or simply unaware of the call, or whether something unusual calls for prompt contact. Three physical buttons and independent cellular calling make it easier for parents to place and answer calls.

From a safety device to an everyday connection

Pet cameras, baby monitors, and growth diaries have made checking in on someone you care about a recurring form of content. KIN asks whether that habit of looking at a loved one's current state could extend to older parents: people might open it out of care, curiosity, and a wish to take part, with everyday moments giving them something natural to talk about. Safety is the baseline; daily connection is the more direct source of happiness. Parents decide what to share.

Market view and long-term direction

Market view: how much attention could family updates hold?

China is the first market considered, focusing on adult children aged 40–60 and parents aged 60–80 who still live independently. Drawing on population, urbanization, and digital-consumption data, the proposal uses about 285 million middle-aged people with purchasing power as an analytical baseline. If just 10% made this a daily habit, that would imply about 28.5 million daily active users (DAU). Xiaomi Home's roughly 117 million monthly active users (MAU) offers a reference for scale, not a like-for-like comparison.

This scenario suggests that, if viewing family updates becomes a habit, KIN's value could extend beyond hardware for older people to an entry point for family attention at platform scale.

In an AI age, what will people still want to see for themselves?

As AI agents take on shopping, booking, and form filling, some routine app visits may move from people to machines. Caring for family, checking on pets, and taking part in real life may still hold attention people want to give personally. KIN proposes organizing content around the people and living things someone cares about, becoming a Family / Living Context Entry.

If the idea later expands to children, pets, and shared family spaces, the proposal outlines a long-term scenario of roughly 500 million distinct potential viewers. Daily-use rates of 10%, 25%, and 50% would imply about 50 million, 125 million, and 250 million DAU, respectively. These are strategic scenarios to test against real behavior, not existing user numbers.

From a definition to something people can try

The proposal includes research into competitors and substitutes, a RMB 999 hardware price, free full-featured software, a go-to-market plan for both buyer and wearer, channels, costs, and unit economics. Its feedback framework looks at voluntary check-ins, continued wear, the value of daily updates, and how both sides feel. The separate showcase site contains the full reasoning and an interactive Watch / App experience.

Population and usage figures on this page are analytical scenarios; pricing and costs belong to the proposal. The interactive prototype uses demonstration data.
